- On the Goals tab open IEP progress report (PDF), choose the period, and select Generate narratives.
- Drafts use only recorded data: data points, trial accuracy, prompting levels, trend, and progress toward the target.
- A goal with fewer than 4 data points in the period is marked Insufficient data instead of being described as progress.
- The student's name is replaced with a placeholder before any text is sent to the AI provider.
- You must Mark reviewed on every included narrative before Export PDF works, and school admins can turn the feature off.
Writing a narrative for every goal is the slowest part of progress reporting. Evident can draft those narratives from the data you already recorded. You edit and approve every one, and the PDF says it was AI-drafted and teacher-reviewed.
Generate the drafts
On the student's Goals tab choose IEP progress report (PDF). Set Period start and Period end (or Last 90 days or Since IEP start) and choose Generate narratives. Each active, maintenance, or mastered goal is drafted in turn, and a goal that fails can be retried on its own.
Each goal gets a progress statement (On track, Partial progress, Not yet demonstrating, or Insufficient data), a Formal narrative for the IEP document, and a Family summary written in plain language.
What the drafts are built from
Drafts are built from the goal's recorded data for the period: the data points and their dates, trial accuracy, prompting levels, trend, and progress toward the target. Data point notes are not sent.
If a goal has fewer than 4 data points in the period, it is marked Insufficient data, so the report does not describe progress the data cannot show.
How student names are protected
Before anything is sent, the student's name is replaced with a placeholder. The name is put back after the draft returns. If a draft comes back with the placeholder altered, it is rejected rather than shown.
Narratives are drafted by Anthropic, listed on the subprocessor list in the DPA. The feature is not offered on the EU deployment.
Review, edit, and export
Each goal opens for editing, with badges showing AI-drafted and, after you change it, Edited. Rewrite as much as you like, untick Include in PDF to leave a goal out, and choose Mark reviewed.
Export PDF stays disabled until every included narrative is marked reviewed. In the PDF, each narrative is labeled AI-drafted, teacher-reviewed, with your name and the review date.
Include Spanish translation of the family summary adds a Spanish version of the summary. If you edit the English afterwards, Evident asks you to translate again before exporting.
Turning the feature off for a school
School administrators can turn narratives off at /dashboard/admin/settings, in the AI progress narratives card, with Allow eligible teachers to draft progress narratives. It is on by default. When it is off, teachers can still export the chart-only report.
Frequently asked questions
Can the AI make up progress?
Drafts are built only from recorded data, goals with too little data are marked Insufficient data, and you review and edit every narrative before it can be exported.
Which plans include narratives?
Every plan can generate and review narratives: free accounts get three report drafts. Downloading the finished report as a PDF is part of Pro and school plans.
Why is Generate narratives unavailable for me?
Your school may have turned the feature off, or you may be on the EU deployment, where it is not offered. You can still export the chart-only report.
