You do not need to set up everything on the first afternoon. This plan gets one student fully working in five days, on the free plan, so adding the rest of your class is repetition rather than guesswork.
Day one: one student, one chart
Add a single student and use Set Up Tracking to build a chart with one or two goals you can mark met or not met. If the goals come from an IEP, mirror that wording now.
If the student has measured IEP goals (counts, minutes, trials), add one on the Goals tab as well so you can see both kinds of logging.
Days two and three: find your logging moment
Log that student every day and notice when it fits: a transition, the end of a block, or dismissal. Keep each entry to the marks and, only when needed, a short note.
If you work on a Chromebook or laptop, this is a good time to add the free Evident Capture extension so you can log from any tab.
Day four: share with the family
On the student's Behavior chart tab, open Settings and use the Parent Access Links card to create a labeled link. Show the QR code or copy the link for your usual family channel. Families open it without an account or an app.
If the family reads another language, set the chart's Target Language first so the portal labels and shared notes appear in that language.
Day five: look back at the week
Open the Behavior chart tab's Chart output and switch between the Calendar and List views to see the week. From the Parent Access Links card, choose Preview what the family sees so you know exactly what the family has been looking at.
On Pro, Download Report on the same tab creates a PDF progress report for the last 7 or 30 days. On the free plan, the history in the app is your record until you need a PDF.
After week one: add the rest
Now import or add the rest of your class and repeat the loop. The free plan holds 30 students with an active chart each and does not expire.
If you share students with a co-teacher, share them now so both of you log against the same record from the start.

Can I do all of this on the free plan?
Yes. Charts, daily logging, IEP data points, the family portal, and translated family updates are on the free plan. PDF reports and packet PDFs need Pro or a school plan.
Why start with just one student?
It is the fastest way to see the whole loop, from chart to logging to family link, before you repeat it for everyone.
What if I miss a day during the first week?
Leave the gap and pick the routine back up the next day. A blank day is more accurate than a filled-in guess.
When should I add my whole class?
Once logging one student feels routine, usually after the first week.
