- Create BIP on the FBA / BIP tab has four steps: Target Behaviors, Replacement Behaviors, Strategies, and Data Collection.
- Plans save as drafts; Activate makes a plan active, and Archive retires it.
- The BIP PDF export is part of Pro and school plans.
- Add Accommodation on the Accommodations tab records the title, category, source (IEP, 504 Plan, RTI/MTSS, or teacher-initiated), and dates.
- Edit an accommodation later to rate its Effectiveness, from Not Effective to Highly Effective.
- Started in the free BIP draft builder? Choose Start from the draft on the FBA / BIP tab to open Create BIP with it filled in.
Behavior intervention plans live on the student's FBA / BIP tab and accommodations on the Accommodations tab. Both are structured forms, so the plan and the supports are written the same way for every student and can be pulled into meeting packets.
Build the BIP
On the FBA / BIP tab choose Create BIP. Target Behaviors asks for the target behavior, its function, current frequency, and intensity. Replacement Behaviors asks for the replacement behavior and the teaching strategy.
If you drafted the plan in the free BIP draft builder, a banner on the FBA / BIP tab offers Start from the draft or Discard. Start from the draft opens this wizard with the target behavior and its function, replacement behaviors, prevention strategies, responses and reinforcement, data collection, and review date filled in, and the triggers and hypothesis in the notes. The student's initials from the builder are left out, because the plan already belongs to this student. Fill in the gaps (frequency, intensity, who is responsible) with the team.
Strategies has prevention strategies (with a responsible party and setting) and consequence strategies: what staff do when the behavior occurs, what happens when the replacement occurs, and the reinforcement.
Data Collection sets the method (Frequency count, Duration recording, Interval recording, ABC data collection, Daily behavior rating, or Scatter plot), how often, who collects it, an optional crisis plan, and a review date.
Activate, edit, and export
New plans are saved as drafts. The plan list has Active, Drafts, and Archived tabs. From a plan you can Edit, Activate, Archive, or Reactivate it.
The PDF button exports the plan document on Pro and school plans. The FBA / BIP review packet in Prepare gathers BIP records alongside ABC incidents.
Track accommodations
On the Accommodations tab choose Add Accommodation. Enter a title and category (Presentation, Response, Setting, Timing/Scheduling, Assignment Modification, Curriculum Modification, or Other), the source (IEP, 504 Plan, RTI/MTSS, Teacher-Initiated, or Other), a description, and start and end dates. Browse Common Accommodations offers ready-made entries.
After the accommodation has been in place for a while, edit it to set Effectiveness (Highly Effective, Effective, Somewhat Effective, Not Effective, or Not Yet Assessed) and add effectiveness notes. Deactivate an accommodation that has ended rather than deleting it.
Bring them to meetings
The Accommodations review packet in Prepare gathers current supports, effectiveness notes, and related progress. The FBA / BIP review packet gathers BIP records with ABC incidents.
Frequently asked questions
Can a student have more than one BIP?
Yes. Keep the current one active and archive older plans so the history stays available.
Why can't I rate effectiveness when I add an accommodation?
Effectiveness is set when you edit an existing accommodation, once there has been time to see how it works.
What needs Pro?
Exporting a BIP or a packet as a PDF. Writing plans and tracking accommodations are part of the student record on your plan.
Is there a free BIP template I can use without an account?
Yes. The free BIP draft builder at evidentk12.com/bip-builder prints a one-page draft for the team to review, with no account, and the draft can carry into Create BIP after you sign up.
