- On your roster, choose Import, then the Google Classroom tab, then Connect Google Classroom.
- Google asks you to sign in and confirm read-only access to your classes and their rosters.
- Pick a class and choose Load Student Roster to see the names before anything is created.
- Anyone already on your roster comes unticked, so importing a class twice adds only the new students.
- Disconnect in the same tab whenever you like; it revokes Evident's access at Google and students you already imported stay put.
If your classes already live in Google Classroom, you can pull a roster across instead of typing it or exporting a CSV. Evident reads your class list and the student names in it, nothing else, and it never writes anything back to Classroom.
What Evident reads, and what it does not
The connection is read-only and covers two things: the list of classes you teach, so you can choose one, and the student names in the class you pick. Evident does not store student email addresses or Google account ids, and it cannot post, edit, or delete anything in Classroom.
Your class list is only used to draw the picker; it is not saved. The only thing that becomes a record in Evident is the student names you confirm in the preview.
Connect your account
On the roster, choose Import, then the Google Classroom tab, then Connect Google Classroom. Google handles the sign-in, so Evident never sees your Google password.
You can connect a Google account that is different from the email you use to sign in to Evident, which is what you want if your school account is the one that owns the classes.
If something goes wrong, you land back on your roster with a short explanation of what happened and what to do about it. Nothing is saved when a connection fails.
Pick a class and import
Choose a class from the picker and select Load Student Roster. The preview lists the names Evident found, and nothing is created until you choose Import.
Students whose names already exist on your roster are marked Already on your roster and start unticked. This is what makes re-importing safe later in the year: run the same class again when a new student joins and only that student is added.
Only active classes you teach appear. Archived classes, and classes where you are a student rather than a teacher, are not listed.
Disconnect when you are done
The Google Classroom tab has a Disconnect button once you are connected. It revokes Evident's access at Google and deletes the stored connection, so a later import needs a fresh sign-in.
Disconnecting does not touch students you already imported. They stay on your roster with their notes, charts, and goals.
You can also review or remove the connection yourself at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Frequently asked questions
Does Evident store student email addresses?
No. The roster import reads display names only. Student emails and Google account ids are never stored.
Can Evident change anything in my Google Classroom?
No. The access is read-only, so Evident can list your classes and read the names in one, and nothing else.
What happens if I import the same class twice?
Students already on your roster come unticked in the preview, so a second import adds only the students who are new. If everyone is already there, the dialog says so.
Do imported students come with a grade level?
No. Google Classroom does not expose grade level, so imported students have none. Add it on the student record, or use CSV import if your export has a grade column.
What if my classes do not appear?
Only active classes where you are a teacher are listed. If a class is missing, check that it is not archived and that you connected the Google account that owns it. Use Refresh in the tab after changing something in Classroom.
Can I use this if my school does not use Google?
Use CSV import instead. It takes a student name column and an optional grade column from any student information system export.
