A parent signature in Evident means the family saw that day's chart. Signing is built into every Parent Access Link, so there is nothing to switch on; your choices are whether to require a PIN and how you describe signing to families.
How signing works
From the portal, the family opens today's chart and chooses Sign Chart. They type their name, draw a signature with a finger, and save. Evident records the signature, the name, and the time on that day's log.
If a chart has a Parent PIN, the family enters the four digits before signing. Set or change it in the chart editor under Family access.
Where signed logs show up
Signed days are marked in the student's chart history. Your Inbox (in the sidebar) lists signatures under its Parents tab, grouped by student. If your notification settings include parent signatures, you also get an email.
On school plans, the admin dashboard shows how many logs families signed across the school.
Set the expectation
Tell families what signing means before the first chart: I saw today's chart. It does not mean agreement with every mark and it does not require a written reply.
If the family reads another language, set the chart's Target Language so the portal and its signing prompt appear in that language.
When signatures stop
A missing signature can mean a revoked or lost link, a changed phone, or a hard week at home. Check that the link is active, then ask the family whether another channel works better, such as a weekly summary you send by email or a phone call.
Signing is optional for families. There is no setting that requires it, and it should never be treated as a grade on the family.

Can I turn signing off?
There is no switch to remove signing from a link. Signing is always optional for the family, and a Parent PIN limits who can sign.
Can families add a note when they sign?
They can use Send a note to the teacher in the portal. The note is saved to the student's communication log.
Does a signature show the family agreed with the chart?
No. It shows the family saw that day's chart.
Can families sign evidence packets?
No. Signing is for daily chart logs in the family portal.
