Free IEP data sheets / Duration Data Sheet

Duration Data Sheet

A free printable duration recording sheet for IEP goals measured in how long a student sustains or takes to begin a behavior. Free to print, copy, and hand to a paraeducator. No account, no email address.

Use this sheet when the goal reads like

  • “will remain engaged in independent work for 10 continuous minutes”
  • “will begin a non-preferred task within 2 minutes of the direction”

Duration and latency use the same sheet because they are the same recording action with a different starting whistle. Note which one this sheet is for at the top so a substitute records the same thing you would.

Not sure this is the right method? The method chooser walks through it in two minutes.

Prompt key: I = independent · V = verbal · G = gestural · M = model · PP = partial physical · FP = full physical

  1. Decide before you start what counts as the beginning and the end, and write it at the top. Half of duration data disagreements are definition disagreements.
  2. For latency goals, start the clock at the direction, not at the point you noticed nothing was happening.
  3. Record each occurrence on its own line. Averaging in your head loses the range, and the range is often the story.

When the paper sheet stays on your desk

Paper works right up until the moment happens across the room. If you would rather record the same data point from whatever tab you are already in, Evident Capture is a free Chrome extension that takes about ten seconds, offline included.
